Summer Holidays 2018 – July and August

Session 1: Monday 23rd July (whole day visit) – Mythology in Art: National Gallery outing

Monday 23rd July (whole day):  Outing to National Gallery – Mythology in Art!   We will take sketchbooks, art materials and picnics and learn about mythological paintings and the stories behind them


Session 2A: Tuesday 24th July (morning) – Picasso with Clay!

Tuesday 24th July (morning):  Working with clay, we will learn about Pablo Picasso, greatest artist of the 20th century and the different art styles that he created.  To tie in with the major Picasso exhibition at Tate Modern link here


Session 2B: Tuesday 24th July (afternoon) – Picasso with Clay!

Tuesday 24th July (afternoon):  Working with clay, we will learn about Pablo Picasso, greatest artist of the 20th century and the different art styles that he created – repeat of morning session.  To tie in with the major Picasso exhibition at Tate Modern link here


Session 3A: Wednesday 25th July (morning) – Observational Drawing!

Wednesday 25th July (morning):  We will learn how to observe and draw what we actually see (rather than what we think is there) bring your trainers!

Session 3B: Wednesday 25th July (afternoon) – Matisse!

Wednesday 25th July (afternoon):  Matisse!  Henri Matisse was the greatest colourist of the 20th century, whose innovations rivaled Picasso.  We will learn about his life and art, and create an artwork in his style.

Session 4: Thursday 26th July (morning) – Abstract Art!

Thursday 26th July (morning):  Abstract Art began in the early 1900s  – it has colour, line and shape but does not represent recognisable images – let your imagination fun free as you learn colour theory  – to tie  in with the major exhibition at Tate Modern link here

Session 5: Monday 30th July (whole day visit) – Mighty Masters: National Gallery outing

Monday 30th July (whole day):  Mighty Masters! National Gallery Outing – We will take sketchbooks, art materials and picnics and learn about and draw a number of Old Master paintings.

Session 6: Tuesday 31st July – Japanese Art!

Tuesday  31st July (morning):  Japanese artist, Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a huge influence on Western European art and is famous for his beautifully executed and serene series of Mount Fuji.  Learn about his fascinating life and art.


Session 7: Wednesday 1st August – Egyptian Art with clay!

Wednesday 1st August (morning):  learn about the Ancient Egyptians and create a Mummy and Sarcophagus from clay!

Session 8: Thursday 2nd August (morning) – Graphic Art – Harry Potter style!

Thursday 2nd August (morning):  Graphic Art Harry Potter style! – to tie in with the Graphic Art ‘Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts’ exhibition at House of MinaLima link here 

Session 9: Thursday 16th August (morning) – Matisse meets Cezanne

Thursday 16th August (morning):  Matisse meets Cezanne!  Henri Matisse and Paul Cezanne were instrumental in shaping Modern Art, Cezanne with his love of shapes, light and shadow, and Matisse his passion for colour and pattern.


Session 10: Friday 17th August (morning) – Hockney in Clay!

Friday 17th August (morning):  David Hockney is the greatest British artist working today  – create a beautiful clay artwork in his style 


Session 11: Monday 20th August (morning) – Frida Kahlo portraits!

Monday 20th August (morning):  To tie in with the major new exhibition at V&A link here

Session 12 Tuesday 21st August (morning) – Elephants Gauguin Style!

Tuesday 21st August (morning):  Elephants – Gauguin style!  learn about leading Post Impressionist Paul Gauguin and about these fascinating and intelligent mammals

Session 13: Wednesday 22nd August (morning) – Pop Art Faces!

Wednesday 22nd August (morning):  learn about the Pop Art Movement and iconic Pop Artist Romero Britto 

Session 14: Tuesday 28th August (morning) – Paint like Monet!

Tuesday 28th August  (morning):  Claude Monet was a leading Impressionist and created the first Movement of Modern Art – learn to paint in his style

Session 15: Wednesday 29th August (morning) – Picasso Animals!

Wednesday  29th August (morning):  Pablo Picasso was one of the most innovative and successful artists of the 20th century, anddrew inspiration from a lifelong fascination with animals.


Session 16: Thursday 30th August – Picasso with Clay!

Thursday 30th August (morning):  repeat of Session 2

Session 17: Friday 31st August (morning) – Andy Warhol Pop Art Tigers !

Friday 31st August (morning):  learn about the Pop Art Movement, Warhol’s artwork and tigers!  Create funky tigers with neon paint.


Please Note: For Sessions 2B and 9 to 17  Barbara will be absent and the sessions will be led by other experienced KidsArt! leaders 

Age:  suitable for children aged 5-13 

Time:  morning: 10.00 am – 1.00 pm; afternoon: 2.00 – 5.00 pm; National Gallery visits (Sessions 1 / 5): 10.30 am – 4.00 pm.  

Whole day:  children may stay from 10.00 am – 5.00 pm on 25th July, if they are signed up for the morning and afternoon sessions but should bring a packed lunch

Place:  all sessions at the KidsArtStudio except for National Gallery visits (Sessions 1 / 5) which begin and end at the Studio – we travel by train to/from the Gallery

Cost:  £35 per session per child except National Gallery visits (Sessions 1 / 5) which are £50 per child (payable on booking)

What’s included:  Art tuition, materials and snacks. Please note that for Sessions 1 / 5 and also for children staying the whole day on 25th July a packed lunch will be required

Consent:  Booking implies consent to use of your child’s art work on the KidsArt!  website and facebook page

Cancellation policy:  We are unable to refund but you may send another child not already booked in your child’s place
