Self-portrait, 1912

The UK’s first major exhibition devoted to the work of Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946), one of Finland’s greatest 20th century artists who painted well into her 80’s, having been recognised as a child prodigy from the age of 11.  The exhibition features over 60 portraits, landscapes and still lifes, including a sequence of self-portraits which demonstrate her “lifelong fascination with the physical and psychological process of ageing.
